A Message from
Our Principal
Hello St. John Paul the Great Parish, my name is Edward Goad and I am beyond excited to begin work as principal of your distinguished St. John Paul the Great Academy.
I come from a family of educators, as my dad was a retired public school teacher and my mom is a retired Catholic school teacher. I currently reside in Monroe, CT with my wife and two sons of the ages 5 and 2.
Prior to SJPTGA, I spent 14 years at St. Bernadette School located in New Haven, CT; 10 of which as Middle School History and Religion Teacher and four as Principal. I received my undergrad and graduate degree from Southern CT State University and Educational Leadership credentials through the University of Creighton and Fordham University.
I would like to thank Fr. Emmanuel and the search committee for the opportunity and promise to be a hard working, energetic, loyal, and visible leader and presence in our community. I look forward to many years serving as your principal and working alongside the many talented educators and dedicated school board to make St. John Paul the Great the most prestigious STREAM Academy in Litchfield County and all of the Archdiocese of Hartford.
As the newest member of the St John Paul the Great Parish family, I look forward to our meeting, our future conversations, and the sharing of ideas. I am excited to get to work and help our students and school reach their highest potential in a safe, secure, and nurturing environment. Spread the word, we are united, we are reinvigorated and we are building excitement right next door. Will you join us?

Age Requirements

Children entering Pre-K 3 must be three (3) year of age by September 1st

Children entering Pre-K 4 must be four (4) years of age by September 1st

Children entering Kindergarten must be five (5) years of age by September 1st
Transfer Requirements
Students in grade Pre-K3 through Grade 8 may transfer into St. John Paul the Great Academy at any time during the school year. Acceptance is based on a review of school records (both academic and behavioral), an interview with student and parents or legal guardians, a classroom visit, a conference with grade level teacher, space availability, and a willingness on the part of student and parent or legal guardian to assume the responsibilities outlined in the handbook.
Upon acceptance into St. John Paul the Great Academy, all students remain in a probationary status for 90 days. During this time, the student’s academic readiness or achievement, classroom demeanor, and social interaction will be observed. The family’s ability to adhere to school rules and regulations, although always required, will be monitored. Upon successful completion of this probationary period, the student is accepted as a full member of the St. John Paul the Great community.
Students With Disabilities
St. John Paul the Great Academy welcomes applications from students with disabilities and considers each on an individual basis, in the same manner as all other applicants. Because the Academy's resources and program may not be equipped to meet every student's needs, the Academy will assess whether it can provide an appropriate education for a student with a diagnosed disability before finalizing admission.
Non-Catholic Students
SJPTGA values ALL our families, regardless of their religious denomination. We treat all students the same and respect the beliefs of those whose institutional Religion differs from the Roman Catholic faith. We expect all families, including all non-Catholics, to support our Mission and Philosophy as a Catholic school. All students, including all non-Catholics, must participate in Religion classes and attend all school religious services and celebrations.
